Guernsey Race Club - Flat race meeting - L'Ancresse Racecourse

04th May 2011
The sixth annual race meet since the re-start in 2006, was held at L'Ancresse common, Monday 2nd May 2011.

Having to build the course and associated infra-structure from scratch, the Guernsey Race Club committee has a huge task to perform in putting this unique event on each year

Unfortunatley the weather decided to play a cruel part, firstly seeing the race card depleted of some runners from the UK due to rough seas and then a strong northly winds bringing heavy slanting rain, by the time the gates opened.
Shortly before the first race, due to start at 14.30 hrs, emergency repairs had to be carried out to a large section of fencing leading up to the finish line, that the wind had torn down.

The second race saw the Jersey horse Crianza pull up injured and after an examination had to be put down, due to a broken bone in the knee.

The following Stewards meeting, with wind and rain still howling in and surface water gathering on the track, saw the rest of the meeting cancelled.
